So, why did I start a blog? Yes - To find Joy in Simple things... but why blog about it? So, here it goes...
It was quite an ordinary day..it was the start of my vacation, I was back to my hometown and the day had come to an end..with a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a warm cozy blanket over me, I turned my PC on, and decided to watch a movie - a movie which I had been wanting to watch since the last six months, but due to lack of proper internet facilities, had been unable too. The movie was Julie & Julia - sounds quite an obvious choice.. I know.
I had always loved cooking. cooking all kinds of (vegetarian) food, and on my vacation I wanted to explore this side of me further, and thanks to Wikipedia, I came to know that Julie & Julia was the right choice, I thought. The movie, obviously turned out to be amazing !!! Meryl Streep's portrayal of Julia Child and Julie Powell's idea of '365 days - 524 recipes' gave me the goosebumps. Everything in the movie was just so natural, and the way the stories were intertwined with each other.. Made me realise that there could be another story added....mine.
I could almost feel that I actually was a part of the movie, as if I was near Julie/Julia everytime, I am a hardcore vegetarian, but this the first time, that I actually felt I wanted to bone a duck..I became a part of Julie's one year adventure...I would jump out of my chair when she would complete a dish successfully, and lament intensely when she would not. How sad was I when Judith Jones was not able to make it to Julie's dinner!!!
My movie-watching would be interspersed with my research sessions, wherein I would google the name of the movie, or search 'Master the Art of French Cooking' on wikipedia, and everytime I would do so, I would feel closer and closer to the movie. When the movie was near the end, I was happy about Julia getting Knopf, and Julie completing her challenge. While Julie was writing the last entry on her blog, the camera went zooming out of her house window, and i felt like I am being zoomed out of my own joy, and a purpose to be happy. 'The Challenge is over' , 'What shall she do next?', 'Is it the end?', I was just bewildered. It felt like an end of a decade. No more French recipes to cook. No more experiences to share.
The movie had ended. But I had a new purpose to continue staying happy. I am a resident of India. I do not have easy access to ingredients required in French cooking. So, I wont be cooking French food much. However, Julie Powell is for me what Julia Child was for Julie. I study engineering, which I am now finding boring. But there is a part of me who wants to stay happy, and who CAN stay happy. Julie blogged because she was bored of her conventional job. And she loved French Cooking. She thought she could share her experience. I will blog because Julie - through Julie & Julia has taught me how to attain joy in simple things.
It is truly a pleasure to indulge in one's hobby. But to share the experience with someone, knowing their responses helps you to connect to people who really are just like you, and people who can be a part of a world you would call heaven. And I am blogging just to connect with MY people.
And as I leave, I wish you Bon Appétit !!!!
